Democracy Watchdogs

7. Massively Parallel Roles & Tasks
Democracy Watchdogs call attention to threats to democratic norms and processes. This includes threats to free and fair elections, legislative and judicial due process, in the U.S. the right of free speech (more protected here than in other democracies), freedom of assembly, and all the other freedoms protected by the U.S. Constitution's Bill of Rights. Democracy Watchdogs also warn about violations of or abrogation of the separation of powers and the system of checks and balances that is supposed to protect against the overreach of any one branch of government above the others. Most often in backsliding or failing democracies, limits on executive power are either ignored, ineffective, or both.
