The New Beyond Intractability is organizing a Challenge-oriented, Large-scale, Long-term, Learning (CL3) Community. Through this community, we hope users from myriad backgrounds--civilian government, IGOs and NGOs, business, and the military--from all over the world--will join together to discuss and expand the ideas presented here. By doing so, we will be able to work together to improve the knowledge base, while simultaneously learning how to better address intractable conflict and governance problems at international, national, and local levels.
Destructive conflict dynamics associated with intractable conflicts routinely undermine good governance and society's problem solving ability as countless stories attest. We must learn how to more constructively handle such conflicts if we are to be able to successfully analyze problems, develop and assess options for addressing those problems, and, finally, select, implement, and evaluate the most effective, equitable, and efficient solutions. In addition to sorting articles by challenge, we have also sorted them into four user-group "portals." While there is overlap, each of these portals presents information we think is likely to be of interest to different user groups. The four portals are:
