Our intent with this page (and subsidiary pages), when they are finished, is to provide practical, immediately-useful information for people exercising governance responsibilities relating to all aspects of technical issues. Topics we intend to cover are (at a minimum) those listed in the outline provided when you click on the "more information" link to the right. Once finished, this page will select some of those materials which are particularly useful for practitioners and highlight them, providing a guided look at the key ideas which government, civil society, and commercial actors need to know when they are dealing with technical issues.
The intent of this portal is to provide a framework for users to assess the adequacy of the current processes they are using to deal wisely with technical issues, and to respond to instances in which technical issues have proven to be problematic. In addition, this portal will provide information about identifying, evaluating, and implementing alternative approaches to a variety of technical problems.
We expect that this portal will be especially useful to practitioners who find themselves with new responsibilities that fall outside of their "comfort zone" and who need quick, supplementary training. It will also be helpful for those who want to enhance their understanding of the field, their skill set, or their personal network. We encourage people who have expertise in this area to suggest topics or specific resources we should include (use the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page), and once the page is written, we will be encouraging practitioners to "talk" with us and each other about the many ideas that will be presented using a variety of participation tools that will be linked to every page in this part of the site.
